If You Tried - A Poem

You could have been so brilliant
If you tried.
You could have gone the distance
If you tried.
You could have been magnificent,
If only you had tried.
Eyes of golden starlit hues,
Silver heart so full and bright.
A hope, a dream, a fantasy,
You could have been a wonder
If you tried.
You watched the distant skyline
Through the window of your room.
You sat and stared and gazed about.
You could have seen it closer
If you tried.
Yet you had no ambition,
You never pushed yourself.
Your potential went unfulfilled.
You would have been a wonder,
If you tried.
Yet all that is gone now,
Your time has all run out,
Faded, fallen, forgotten,
Lost in misty annals
Between the dusty pages of
Endless ages.
You could have been a legend,
If you tried.
Your legacy remembered,
If you tried.
You could have lived forever,
If only you had tried.

  1. Such a sad piece, and yet, if we listen, it will save the rest of us.
