Bring In The Dancing Lobsters! - NaNoWriMo Update, Day 15

Plot Progression: It's moving . . . I think.

40k is within my sights, but blast me if it's an easy climb.

The plan I put forward last week to get the plot into full flow wasn't exactly a raging success either.

I'm hitting a down period - I'm irritated by the inconsistencies and weaknesses in the story, the idea has lost its original novelty, and the plot is blatantly refusing to go where I tell it to. It's lurching painfully through long streams of tedium, where characters pretty much repeat everything that's been said before because I can't remember if it's been mentioned already, and I have no idea how to move them on.

Thankfully, as of this morning, I've had a brainwave and plan to kick the beastie into a higher gear within the next chapter or two. I've got almost all my important players where I want them, and everything is lined up for the main action to get rolling. Some helpful plot bunnies have made for some fascinating side plots and red herrings, too!

The only issue will be working in the other aspects of the story - the setting, the character development, and a few rather important side-plots - at the same time.

I think I can do it though. After all, there's nothing like the Sherlock Holmes movie soundtracks to put you in the proper mood for steampunk hi-jinx!

Now . . . let's start a revolution!

  1. *snickers at the musical connection and giglges as Rachael offhandedly mentions that she started a revolution last year.*

    1. Ehehehe, I wish the story's denizens wished the same! They're not keen . . . for some reason ;)

  2. As Cathryn says, we all wish you luck! And always remember: NaNo is about getting a story from start to finish, NOT writing a masterpiece with a beautifully arcing structure, fantastically developed characters, tip-top writing and thoughtful messages and themes strewn throughout. That's what rewrites are for! So don't worry. Just focus on getting to the end and look forward to the endless fun later drafts will bring XD

  3. Half way through the month! Wow! I'm not even doing NaNo and I think November's been rushing away. And nothing like some Sherlock Holmes soundtrack for making a vlog either! :P It just has a certain dissonant twang to it.

    1. It does. And it's very action packed and boing-boing-boing-adventure-time! as well, which is even better.

November is indeed flying past our faces at an alarming rate . . . eeeeeep!

  4. You are writing Steampunk?

I hope you can get past the stickiness. It is horrible when it hits during Hermits United. But Sherlock Holmes soundtrack, HUGE help

    1. I am indeed! Though the "steampunk" bit isn't coming through very well *facedesk*

Heh heh, it is indeed. I don't know where I'd be without that bouncy violin screech to help me out!
