Editing Hobbits on Skis

3D glasses are swiftly gaining on lumpy matresses in the Great List of Thing I Want To Jump Up And Down On. Not in the least because these ones were slimy. And my hair stuck to them.

Not that I really noticed. I was too busy trying to contain my inner fangirl in front of a theatre full of people.

To all who haven't seen it yet: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is incredible. See it as soon as you can because, believe me, it will be worth it.

To all those who have: I want a giant elk. Moose. Whatever that thing is. You know what I mean.

I really shouldn't have been reading The Silmarillion that morning, either. Picked up on so many references. Peter Jackson, I salute you. Charley's dignity, farewell.

Yes. Sorry. Squeaking over now.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas time - I'm betting several of you had a situation similar to me, which constituted the arrival of multiple family members, copious amounts of food, and such a wonderful time that you didn't even open up your laptop for several days.

This is usually the point where I would say "and now we're back with our regularly scheduled funtimes!". Regretably, it will not be.

Because I'm going skiing. Tomorrow. For a week.

And it's going to be awesome. I promise I'll bring back what pictures I can get, and I apologise profusely for lack of things like reviews and Writerly Tips (I promise I'll get back onto those very soon!). Life distracted me far more than I thought it would. Sorry.

But let's finish on a very very good note: the first 25 chapters of St Mallory's Forever! are open on my screen, and we're going through what we hope might be our final edits. Miriam and I like the idea of January the 22nd for a release date, and I will do my best to ensure it is so. We'll both keep you posted on that.

In the meantime, enjoy your New Year, and all the best from me!

~ Charley R

  1. I saw it in 2D. It was still awesome. I also want a giant moose thing.

(I may have leaned over to my mother and gone MOOOOOOOOOOOSE in her ear at the time.)

More than that, I want Kili. ... *shifty eyes*

    1. I'm sure it was. I almost regret the 3D because the glasses were so slimy and yucky and revolting. They also didn't fit my face. *sigh*

I bet your mum appreciated that xD

You can has Kili if I can have his brother. Or Thorin. Or both.

    2. Gladly. I just want Kili. I want to sit him on my sofa and watch him for a while because he's adorable, though he might have to budge up to let Q in because if I'm going to have a sofa of adorableness, I can't leave him out.

    3. We all need a sofa of adorableness. I'd probably have to steal Aragorn and Faramir to add to mine. I like my obsessions a bit more rugged, heh heh.

    4. They're not adorable though. They're, like ... I don't know. Just attractive. Adorable and attractive are different.

    5. True. You do adorale, I'll do attractive.

    6. And I'll visit both of your couches. :}

  2. Yay!! I saw it in 2D.

We should both go... moose-hunting and get a moose/elf/whatever.

  3. *Elk! Gah, I mean elk! Methinks Thranduil would not give piggyback rides. xD

    1. Someone needs to draw Thranduil giving a piggyback ride now. Seriuosly. I am not joking.

  4. My first time donning those 3D glasses...and I must say, it was awesome. But slimey? Oh, gross. Ours were all sealed and you got to pop the packet to get them out (and return them...I suggested sneaking a pair, but mime said no. She's so good). But, as for the movie...AWESOME. I did have a heart-attack when Gollum threw that rock at me though (seriously, it missed Bilbo and nearly hit ME in the face. Darn 3D).

I'll take one of those rabbits, please (I can't remember their full name).

    PS Have fun skiing! :)

    1. Where I live you have to pay for the glasses but you can keep them, so the next time you go you don't have to buy another one... unless you broke them. It's a good system :)

    2. Slimy glasses indeed - they were YUCKEH. Thin film of greasy ick on them. Guh.

Ehehe, I wasn't worried by the rock at all. Though the goblin king was so disgusting I nearly hid under my seat. That wobbly boil chin thing . . . *shudders*

  5. I thought I was subscribed by email, but it hadn't given me the last two posts. I tried again just now, but it said I was already subscribed. Curse you, lying subscription form! But on to more important topics.

SILMARILLION REFERENCES! My brother saw The Hobbit today (he hasn't read the Silmarillion), but I didn't get the chance. Now I want to see it even more. What did they reference? Moldor? Gothmog? Glorfindel's death (the greatest mystery of Middle Earth, other than Tom Bombadil)? Turin? The Dark Elf? Glaurung?

    1. None of those things I am afraid :( It's mainly appendix stuff because they're not actually allowed to use stuff that's ONLY in the Silmarillion, since they don't have the rights to it. Or so I was told. I did a video review of the Hobbit on my channel in which I try and work out what's from where :)

The subscription thing does exactly the same thing to me, hence why I often comment several days late...

And yes, I'm doing my usual thing of stalking Charley's blog while she's away and replying to comments so her readers don't feel abandoned. I don't know why I do this but it seems to be a habit.

    2. I'm here, no fear! The Bavarian barbarians (try saying that with a mouthful of popcorn!) have wireless! All is well!

As Miriam said, mostly appendices stuff. Some reference to the "HIgh Elves of the West" who crafted swords . . . my head screams "FEANORIANS!!!" but that's a longshot, perhaps, as I'm sure there were pleny of other awesome smiths out there. Mention of Ungoliant with reference to the giant spiders. And yeah, mostly just appendices shizzle, all very short and unelaborated. But still enough to make my inner nerd squeal.

Also, BAD SUBSCRIPTION. I wish I cold do something more about it than just wanting to kick it :P

    3. They mentioned Ungoliant? Awesome.

      Delete
    4. Yep - in reference to nasty Mirkwood spiders making an appearance "These are the spawn of Ungoliant". Again, throwaway comment, but one easily spotted and squee'd at by the avid Tolkeinist ;)

    5. Indeed. Do you think they'll say anything about Glaurung?

  6. Stupid comments section won't let me reply to your comment. *grumbles* So...

I draw about as well as a chipmunk on drugs (so not well xD), but I may be able to convince a friend to draw Thranduil giving a piggyback ride.

Who's getting the piggyback ride? *imagines little Legolas and has extreme d'awwwwwwwing moment*

    1. Naughty comments thingie! *glares at it in a most displeased manner*

Oh, please try! I likewise have all the artistic talent of a drunken tree stump :P

That would be so cute. Or you could do a hilarious one with Elrond. Or maybe his kids, pestering "Uncle Thrandy" xD

    2. Ooh, that's more like it. Tree stumps don't even have arms. Or feet.

      Good idea. *pesters friend*

  7. Hey, Chuck. I want to start a blog for the Phils on Blogger and I need a little help getting it up and running. I figure since both the Head Phil and Percival have them, I should too.

  8. Aye, everyone should see The Hobbit. It is...well, there are really no words for it. There are, but they don't do it jusitce. Everyone should just see it.

And aye, a giant elk thing is a must!
