3D glasses are swiftly gaining on lumpy matresses in the Great List of Thing I Want To Jump Up And Down On. Not in the least because these ones were slimy. And my hair stuck to them.
Not that I really noticed. I was too busy trying to contain my inner fangirl in front of a theatre full of people.
To all who haven't seen it yet: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is incredible. See it as soon as you can because, believe me, it will be worth it.
To all those who have: I want a giant elk. Moose. Whatever that thing is. You know what I mean.
I really shouldn't have been reading The Silmarillion that morning, either. Picked up on so many references. Peter Jackson, I salute you. Charley's dignity, farewell.
Yes. Sorry. Squeaking over now.
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas time - I'm betting several of you had a situation similar to me, which constituted the arrival of multiple family members, copious amounts of food, and such a wonderful time that you didn't even open up your laptop for several days.
This is usually the point where I would say "and now we're back with our regularly scheduled funtimes!". Regretably, it will not be.
Because I'm going skiing. Tomorrow. For a week.
And it's going to be awesome. I promise I'll bring back what pictures I can get, and I apologise profusely for lack of things like reviews and Writerly Tips (I promise I'll get back onto those very soon!). Life distracted me far more than I thought it would. Sorry.
But let's finish on a very very good note: the first 25 chapters of St Mallory's Forever! are open on my screen, and we're going through what we hope might be our final edits. Miriam and I like the idea of January the 22nd for a release date, and I will do my best to ensure it is so. We'll both keep you posted on that.
In the meantime, enjoy your New Year, and all the best from me!

Conquering the Land of Nod
Ah, half term at last. A week-long stretch to sleep in until the sun appears, eat tasty homecooked food, and launch vicious attacks on my first coursework assignments for the year.
NaNoWriMo is less than a week away, too, and I plan to make as much headway as I can before the regular volleys of schoolwork and worse return to eat my brain.
The long-awaited St Mallory's Forever! will also be making serious headway too, because . . . *cue presumptuous drum roll* . . . the first draft is finished!
I'll be keeping all you lovely people updated on the editing process - both my co-author Miriam, and lovely publisher Mark have plenty of experience in the area, I'm just the newbie along for the ride - so stay tuned!
Who knows. Maybe we'll even get around to release dates eventually.
Of course, as it's the holidays, I am back in Germania - the house now has functioning internet, though my access to it is momentarily uncertain (I have pre-scheduled this post, as I will have spent today travelling through Europe, and will likely be in no state to drag myself out of the Land of Nod at any time in the early morning, and will doubtless be far from fully functioning for the rest of the day).
So, in the meantime, enjoy this picture of my war face.
Rawr. Fear me.

The British Are Back! ... And They've Got the Sniffles.
I hate being sick (surprise surprise), but luckily for me it doesn't happen too often - I seem to have a nack for avoiding even the most infectious bugs and snifflies in the crowded boarding school environment. Which is probably why I get so mightily ticked off when I do actually get ill. Especially when the thumping headache, spinning vision, sudden lack of brain functions and motor skills is coupled with whacked out temperature regulation and jet lag. I haven't slept properly in three nights. I woke up at midday this morning having gotten a grand total of five or six hours' sleep. Not a happy rabbit right now.
(I have a million and one pictures of the Capitol - it was so awesome to photograph! I think I got a bit overenthusiastic, hee hee! These two are my favourites though, I think.)
But never mind that - I've had a lovely Christmas, and I'm going to tell you all about that instead!
Now, follow my lead as I take you through a picture-infested guide to my trip to the US of A. Watch out Yanks, THE BRITISH ARE COMING ... AND WE HAVE CAMERAS!
First stop ... WASHINGTON DC!
The Lincoln Memorian (above and below)
The Washington Train Station
The Capitol
(I have a million and one pictures of the Capitol - it was so awesome to photograph! I think I got a bit overenthusiastic, hee hee! These two are my favourites though, I think.)
The Washington Monument
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery
Taken at Arlington (forgotten what it's called exactly xP)
Arlington House
View of the graves at Arlington
Taken from the top of the Post Office tower!
The White House! :D
And then on to ... FLORIDA and KEY WEST!
Taken off a pier, just south of Miami on our way down to Key West
Pelican! :D
A horseshoe crab we found on a beach near Fort Daytona (or something like that)
Pretty things from the beach :)
(Tee hee, the car has eyelashes!)
The three above are pretty self-explanatory - the stripy t-shirted individual in the foreground on this last one is me!
Taken during the famous sunset at Key West
The famous Sloppy Joe's bar! A favourite haunt of Ernest Hemingway apparently
*
There are, of course, a thousand and a half more photos, and there were several places and activities where I was unable to or simply forgot to take pictures:
* Swimming with manatees
* Whizzing around Key West on a jet-ski
* Inside the Smithsonian Space Museum in Washington
* Christmas Day with the family
and loads more.
Subsequently, I shall probably do you another post tomorrow, with a few more pictures, and maybe an amusing story or two (because I have several to tell, believe me!) Comment below and ask me if you want to hear about anything in particular, because there's far too much for me to tell you absolutely everything. Besides, I'm too ill to try and force my poor brain to do anything too arduous today.
In the meantime, I'm going to go and get some more ibruprofen. Ciao for now!

Dancing Doctors, Christmas Spirit and Holiday Madness!
It's that time of year again - the last day of school! Whoop de whoop! I've only got two lessons this morning (unfortunately one of them is Spanish, curse it's impossibility to the deepest darkest pits of nastiness), then a prize-giving ceremony in the main school hall, lunch, and then a whole afternoon with no lessons to...
Pack up my bedroom. Bleurgh. I've got most of it done already, but the thought of shoving it all back into those accursed bags, only to have to carry them down four flights of stairs makes my shoulders hurt.
But ... tonight ... it's the DUN HOLME CHRISTMAS PARTY!

Nom nom nom, big yummy Christmas dinner, Secret Santa gifts that I spent so bloody long wrapping (I'm still finding bits of wrapping paper strewn all around the room at regular intervals!) and, best of all, it's fancy dress! The theme (of my personal choosing *grins*) is "Blast from the Past". I didn't have long to do my costume, but it's gonna be epic.
But that's not all. Oh no, something even better is happening on Sunday! After traipsing home after the school Carol Service on Saturday, my mother, brother and I will be grabbing out suitcases and hopping aboard a flight to Florida, USA!
My Dad's working out there at the moment, but hey, any excuse to drop in and show our budsies across the Pond our sheer British epictasticness. I reckon I'll spend most of Sunday following the Ninth Doctor's example becuase I won't be able to sit still for sheer excitement.

However, this does mean that I'll be away over Christmas, and that I won't be able to get the pictures of me in my costume to you until sometime in the New Year. But hopefully they'll be well worth waiting for - I'll certainly have lots to share with you all when I get back! I'm planning on doing LOTS of scribbling in Florida, before I have to come home and do my holiday homework (I've been trying to supress it as best I can by doing it during the week, but the stuff is pretty unstoppable at times.
Adios, mine faithful companions! I shall see you in the New Year! :)

Guess Who's Back?
No, not Shady, it's meeeee!
Anywho, to cut out the blather, France was fabulous. Wonderful old medieval towns to roam about, castles to explore, smelly cheese and tasty bread to devour, locals to terrorise ... what more could you want? Highlights have to be Dinan and Carcassonne - aka, the most gorgeous, amazing, heart-stealing walled city in the world. Seriously, I stood on the bridge and thought I'd walked into a fairytale kingdom. Here are some pictures from the internet to show you what I mean - I'd show you the ones we took, but my laptop still denies the existance of every camera in existence:
Unfortunately, I can't find any inside the city walls but, as you can see from the middle picture, the views from the walls on a clear day are utterly spectacular. The fortress is incredible too, and the parapets and ...
Yeah, I'm pretty infatuated with this place.
In other news, I've unexpectedly come across a new project. My main story - which still has no name - has been somewhat usurped by a little anthology, similar to Option One in the post, but nowhere near as long, and only following one family (if you can call them that ...) of my myst-hakel fantasy race. I may post some extracts up here when I get it all sorted out, so keep your eyes peeled for that later on :)
In the meantime, said anthology is calling my name, and I think I'd best go and give it some love. See you guys later!
- Spook
P.S. Can anyone explain why my WordPress.com blog has been suspended? I can't get hold of the WordPress team to work it out, so if you guys could help me out I would be eternally grateful!
